Melissa Penfold’s No. 1 home improvement & affordable ways to refresh a room

In these videos, Deb continues to chat with our special Balance guest, style expert Melissa Penfold.

When Deb worked with Woman’s Weekly home pages, they would feature someone’s home for restyling. She recalls walking into some homes before filming, and instantly thinking there was too much clutter. It’s easier to declutter someone else’s property for a film session, but much harder to be as ruthless decluttering your own belongings, especially if you’re attached to certain pieces. Deb asks Melissa, how important is it, and what’s the trick to decluttering your own house?

Melissa’s advice is short and sweet: Decluttering is the No. 1 thing anyone can do to improve the look of their house.

“We become sentimental and we have blinders to our own stuff. So get a friend with great taste, who you trust and doesn’t have an agenda. Get them over.” Ask yourself, “Do I need this? Do I love it? Keep only stuff that is beautiful.”

“Be on constant clutter-patrol!” she says.

In the video below, Melissa offers some quick and easy tips to freshen up your home interior.
