About the renovations

Progress so far

At the time of starting the Renovation Rookie website, Deborah has already been living in her house for nine months and has spent at least six months researching the style and look she would like.

In this video, Deborah talks about how she has used Pinterest to gather her ideas and paid for a draftsman to draw up some plans based on her thoughts.

“It took quite a few months to draft a floor plan,” Deborah said.

“Then I talked to an architect. What’s happened is we’re basically changing everything and I look back and think, well that initial stage was a bit of a waste of money and I’ve also confirmed that I’m not an architect.”

In consultation with her new architect, Deborah now has a floor plan that she’s happy with and is progressing through the Development Approval process with council.

In this next video Deborah talks about how using digital media has been critical for helping her decide what she wants and the direction she wants to take this project.

oh my gosh I feel your excitement. I am always saying when I get the house of my dreams I am going to do this and that, my goodness I have just turned 60 so I have less years ahead than behind me!
I am going to follow your story and live my dreams through your reno.
I won’t wish you luck because you are going to succeed with flying colours, you have such style, I don’t think you can learn this I think it something that you are born with.
    bring on the next chapter.

That’s very kind of you Kay. I think it comes down to a confidence thing as well. I have never done anything on this scale and as I’ve said, I don’t want to stuff it up. So every decision comes with weight. If it wasn’t my “forever” house I’d probably feel like I could ‘sail’ through it. Anyway, it’s a journey. Once I get the DA submitted I’ll be able to work on the exciting things like Fitout! That’s the exciting part. Thx for being part of the journey. Cheers Deb

Thank so much Nola. This is well and truely an eye opener for me. Not as easy as I thought and I’m still working on the DA! So important to get the front of the house right and at the moment that is proving challenging. Anyway stay tuned and will keep you posted.
Thanks for being part of the journey. Deb
