Episode 48 – My not-so-secret hiding spot, the Blue Room

As you would know by now, my new home has been designed to maximise the coastal view, let in natural light, and for each living space to flow naturally into the next.

However, I’d always planned to create a special room to escape, relax and block out the outside world for just a while. Watch my video below to see how I’ve designed my blue room.

The colour I’ve used through the entire house is Alabaster white, but for this room I’ve used a deep blue from top to bottom. I wanted it to feel quiet, snug, warm and inviting – somewhat separate from the light, airy feel of the house. This room is my warm, cosy hideaway to curl up and read a good book. It’s also where I’ll snuggle up in winter with the fireplace on, to watch my favourite TV shows.

This house is fairly small so I had to think practically and create a multi-purpose space. Therefore my blue room hide-away is also a great media room, and a semi self-contained guest room. There is a big pull-out sofa bed to come and I’ve even included a small wardrobe. I know my mum will love it when she visits.
